Facility Profile:

Located 38 miles south of downtown Baton Rouge and 50 miles northwest of New Orleans, near the town of Donaldsonville, LA.   The St. James, LA plant was originally owned by Gulf Oil Chemical Company and has been in operation since 1971. In 1977 the plant was expanded to a 600-MM pound a year capacity and modernized to reduce energy consumption by 20% in 1985.  The facility was again expanded in 1991 and its capacity increased to 1.7 billion pounds a year while lowering overall environmental emissions. In 2002, the styrene plant completed a multi-million dollar capacity increase and modernization.  The plant was ISO 9000:2000 certified in 1994 and was recertified in 2006.  The facility became an Americas Styrenics asset in May 2008.

Products Produced

Uses

Styrene Monomer

Aromatic monomer produced from benzene and ethylene and used as a feedstock polystyrene and K-Resin® SBC production.  Also used to produce a wide variety of polymers with very diverse end-uses that include packaging, automotive applications, electronic parts, rubber products, paper, housewares, construction materials, carpeting and toys.
